Contactless cards with chip technology
Wells Fargo offers debit cards with contactless technology, which helps provide a speedy and secure purchase and checkout experience. A contactless card allows you to tap your debit card against a reader in addition to inserting or swiping your card. When you tap to pay or access an ATM, your card uses the advanced encryption and safeguards provided by the chip on your card. Look for the Contactless Symbol at contactless-enabled merchant terminals, transit turnstiles, and for use at Wells Fargo ATMs.

Chip technology
Wells Fargo Debit Cards include chip technology on the front of the card, plus the traditional magnetic stripe on the back. The chip provides added security because it is extremely difficult to counterfeit or copy when used at a chip-enabled terminal or ATM, and does not store any personal information. If a merchant or ATM has not yet adopted chip technology, your transaction will be processed using the magnetic stripe.
