Experience design (XD) is a discipline that develops holistic experiences inclusive of all users across all aspects of service, product or event. It provides a way for organizations to design a valuable user experience. Thinking of attending Experience Design 2021? Experience design engages thinking, knowledge, and skills in field research, coding, physical construction, visual design, marketing, and presentation. If you're a degreed expert and have the portfolio to prove it you may have the makings of an experience designer.

The MFA in Experience Design is a transdisciplinary distance learning degree that brings together design research, accessibility, technology, leadership, and innovation for people-driven design. xdMFA is designed for people from various disciplines to develop the expertise necessary for the highest levels of design research and practice for the diverse human experience. The program mixes online, virtual, and in-person learning experiences for those who seek life-transforming learning on a flexible schedule.

Application Deadlines: June 1 (for Fall semester start), December 1 (for Spring semester start)

Design is All Around

No matter where you are, the xdMFA is within reach. Online classes make learning portable and each semester, the xdMFA cohort visits a different location in North America to research and design in context for a long weekend. Students in the program visit places like Zion National Park, New Orleans, Santa Fe, Montréal, and even our own hometown of Oxford, Ohio.

People don't interact with design in studios. So we take the studio to where people and design intersect to examine topics like wellness, transportation, sustainability, commerce, and healthy communities.
